Ideas for School Fundraising

If you're a member of your school's PTO or PTA, or your child is involved in any extracurricular ideas, then you will definitely experience fundraising first hand. Often, schools must find creative ways to raise funds for special trips and supplies. Looking for some ideas to make your next school fundraising effort a success? Read on!

Let the students get involved. Rather than presenting them with a school fundraising idea, ask them what they think a good fundraiser would be. Depending on the grade the children are in, you may hear some wild ideas! You could present the kids with several school fundraising ideas and let them vote for their favorite. That way you're ensured to hold a fundraiser that everyone is excited about participating in!

There are lots of great ways to hold a successful school fundraising project. You could recruit students to sell items to friends, family, and community members. There are many companies out there that offer fantastic merchandise and colorful catalogs for potential buyers to look through. Great ideas for items to sell include gourmet candies, coffee, popcorn, scented candles, bath and beauty products and collectibles. These items represent a small fraction of the items available to sell via school fundraising.

Or, you could hold an event open to the community. Examples include bake sales, yard sales, auctions and car washes. Ask parents and students to donate their time and talent to make these events a success. Another great idea is to hold a raffle. Often, a raffle can work in conjunction with another event like a sale or festival where the community attends. Ask local businesses and craftspeople to donate raffle prizes, then charge an amount for the tickets that is appropriate for the value of the prizes. Good raffle prizes include gift certificates, handmade crafts like quilts, fine art, books, gift baskets, and more.

Another idea for a school fundraiser involves selling items to the students themselves. Great items include cute pens, book covers, lollipops, ice cream, and other things that kids in school would enjoy or need. Price these items reasonably so that the kids can easily afford them. In a large school, a dollar here and a dollar there really adds up!

The great thing about school fundraising is that you have the most enthusiastic and energetic people working to help -- children! Kids love to get involved when it comes to helping their school, and are often the most effective salespeople found anywhere!
